One of the most common reasons grocery orders get oversized or undersized — especially when ordering online for the first time — is guessing portion sizes. Below is a practical monthly quantity guide for a Pakistani family, based on typical eating patterns (rotis at most meals, rice 3–4 times a week, daal every other day).

Family of 2 (couple)

  • Atta: 5–7 kg
  • Ghee or oil: 1.5–2 kg
  • Rice (mixed daily-use + basmati): 3 kg
  • Daal (any 2 varieties): 1 kg total
  • Sugar: 1 kg
  • Tea: 250 g
  • Milk: 12–15 litres

Family of 4 (parents + 2 kids)

  • Atta: 15–20 kg
  • Ghee or oil: 3.5–4.5 kg
  • Rice (mixed daily-use + basmati): 7–9 kg
  • Daal (any 3 varieties): 2.5 kg total
  • Sugar: 2–3 kg
  • Tea: 500 g (950 g pack lasts ~6 weeks)
  • Milk: 25–35 litres

Family of 6 (joint family)

  • Atta: 25–30 kg (one 20 kg bag + one 10 kg)
  • Ghee or oil: 5–6 kg
  • Rice (mixed daily-use + basmati): 10–12 kg
  • Daal (3+ varieties): 4 kg total
  • Sugar: 3–4 kg
  • Tea: 950 g pack lasts ~4 weeks
  • Milk: 40–55 litres

These are starting estimates — adjust by ±20% based on how often your family eats rice vs roti, and how much daal / meat-heavy cooking happens. Households cooking biryani or pulao 2–3 times a week need closer to the upper end of the rice range.
